What Does The Pythagorean Theorem Have To Do With Nutrition?

During my junior year of college, I decided I wanted to be a teacher. My mother was a teacher, and my father was a preacher. Given my upbringing, pursuing a service profession seemed completely natural. My teaching career was a good one. I taught 8th grade math at one of the best middle schools in Georgia for many years. I loved teaching math! There was always a right answer, every day was a challenge, and middle schoolers never allowed me to become bored. Surrounded by an amazing team that genuinely cared for their students and led by an administration that allowed us to use our creativity, I honestly enjoyed going to work every day. After moving back home to North Carolina and receiving our celiac disease diagnosis, I decided it was time to move on from helping others appreciate the power of the Pythagorean theorem to helping others appreciate the power of food.

Going back to school reinforced my love of learning. Whether I am the student or the teacher, I continue to find learning empowering. That passion I had for watching my students grow from the beginning of the year until the end was the same way I felt finishing an impossible 13 page final exam in Nutritional Biochemisty. I love learning new things, but most importantly, I love sharing what I have learned with others. I mean, why wouldn’t I want to tell the world how fascinating carbohydrate metabolism can be?!

With my new adventure of opening a nutrition counseling private practice, I hope to combine my love of sharing knowledge with my passion for watching others grow through setting goals.
